The first Kath & Kim spots are on the air...

...and my enthusiasm has waned:

The biggest problem appears to be Selma Blair as Kim - not pudgy enough, not funny enough. Molly Shannon as Kath seems to be in the spirit, though.

"Kath & Kim" find husbands

From Zap2It.com:

NBC is rounding out the cast of its new comedy "Kath & Kim," with John Michael Higgins and Mikey Day signing up for husband duty.

Higgins ("The Break-Up," "A Mighty Wind") and Day (Showtime's "The Underground") will play the spouses of Molly Shannon's and Selma Blair's characters in the remake of the Australian hit.

Higgins will make a perfect "Kel." I'm pretty happy with the casting so far, with a wait-and-see attitude towards Selma Blair. But I do have to say, the more they reveal about this remake, the more I think they may actually pull it off.

"Kath & Kim" - U.S. update

I'm feeling a little better after reading this:

NBC has signed frequent Judd Apatow collaborator Paul Feig ("Freaks and Geeks") to direct the pilot for the Molly Shannon comedy "Kath & Kim."
Feig, a scribe-thesp-helmer, recently had a role in Apatow's "Knocked Up." Duo co-created "Freaks and Geeks" and Feig directed Apatow's short-lived Fox skein "Undeclared."

Molly Shannon has already been cast as Kath.

That's noiyce, that's different, that's un-eweshual

I should probably be more excited that Molly Shannon has been cast as "Kath" in the upcoming American remake of one of my favorite shows, the Aussie sitcom Kath & Kim (which runs here on the Sundance Channel), but visions of Sally O'Malley keep muting my glee.

How do other K&K fans feel about this? Are there any (besides you, JL!)?

Do we Yanks have any hope of matching this perfection?
